Australia United Kingdom and Canada Recognize the State of Palestine

Australia the United Kingdom and Canada have officially recognized the State of Palestine, marking a historic turning point in the decades-long Middle East conflict. The coordinated announcement is being hailed by many world leaders and peace advocates as a strong diplomatic push toward a two-state solution, which has long been viewed as the most viable path to lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese stated that recognizing Palestinian statehood is “an essential step to achieve a durable peace and ensure security for both peoples.” He emphasized that the recognition reinforces Australia’s commitment to a negotiated two-state solution and calls on both sides to return to meaningful dialogue.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer echoed similar sentiments, noting that “the time has come for the international community to firmly acknowledge the Palestinian right to self-determination.” Starmer stressed that Britain’s decision is aimed at revitalizing the stalled peace process and ensuring a secure future for both Israel and Palestine.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also highlighted the importance of this decision, calling it “a critical move to advance peace and stability in the Middle East.” He urged all parties to resume direct negotiations and reaffirmed Canada’s support for Israel’s security alongside its recognition of Palestinian aspirations.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas welcomed the move as a “historic and long-awaited recognition of our people’s right to an independent state.” Palestinian officials described the decision as a powerful message of international solidarity with the Palestinian cause and a step that strengthens their diplomatic standing at the United Nations and beyond.

However, the move has drawn sharp criticism from Israel. Israeli government spokespeople warned that unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state could undermine direct peace talks and fuel regional instability. They reiterated that any lasting agreement must be reached through direct negotiations between the two parties.
