NATO Intelligence Warns Russia May Be Developing Anti-Satellite Weapon to Target Starlink

Two intelligence agencies from NATO member nations have raised concerns that Russia is developing a new anti-satellite (ASAT) weapon aimed at disrupting Elon muskโ€™s Starlink satellite constellation, according to intelligence assessments.

The suspected system is believed to work by creating destructive clouds of orbiting shrapnel in space, designed to disable satellites without directly targeting a single object. Experts warn that such an approach could trigger long-lasting space debris, potentially damaging not only the intended target but also other satellites operating in low Earth orbit.

Starlink, a low Earth orbit satellite network, plays a critical role in providing global internet connectivity, military communications, and disaster-response support. Any attack on the constellation could result in widespread disruptions to communication infrastructure across multiple regions.

NATO sources suggest that Russiaโ€™s actions are intensifying concerns over space security, with outer space increasingly viewed as a strategic domain of geopolitical competition. The potential weapon underscores how modern conflicts are expanding beyond traditional land, sea, and air domains into orbit.

Russia has not officially commented on the intelligence findings. However, international analysts note that the assessments highlight the growing importance of privately operated satellite systems like Starlink in modern warfare and global geopolitical tensions.
