Webdesk:-A significant operation, Israeli soldiers unearthed a kilometer-long booby-trapped tunnel in the Gaza Strip, revealing cramped cells allegedly used by Hamas to hold approximately 20 hostages, according to military spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari.

The discovered holding area comprised five narrow rooms behind metal bars, equipped with toilets, mattresses, and poignant drawings by a child hostage, freed during a November truce. Notably, no hostages were present at the time of discovery.

The tunnel’s entrance was located in the house of a Hamas member in the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis, an area of intensified focus for Israel’s recent efforts against the Palestinian Islamist group.

As soldiers entered the tunnel, a confrontation ensued with terrorists, resulting in the elimination of the threat. The tunnel itself was meticulously rigged with blast doors and explosives.

Hagari provided harrowing details, stating, “About 20 hostages were held in this tunnel at different times under harsh conditions without daylight, in dense air with little oxygen, and terrible humidity that makes breathing difficult.”

The military, emphasizing transparency, released photos of the underground complex and facilitated journalist documentation before destroying the tunnel. Some hostages had been freed during a Qatari-mediated truce, while others remain in Gaza, part of the over 130 captured during Hamas’ October 7 rampage through southern Israel.
