UNRWA Support: Gaza Relief
Webdesk:- UN agency heads emphasized the critical role of funding for the United Nations’ Palestine Refugee Agency (UNRWA), warning that its suspension could lead to the collapse of the humanitarian system in Gaza. Accusations against 12 UNRWA staff members by Israel resulted in temporary funding suspensions from countries like the United States, Britain, Germany, and Japan. However, both the United Nations and Hamas oppose this action.

Sigrid Kag, the UN coordinator for Gaza, emphasized that UNRWA is irreplaceable due to its expertise, knowledge of Gaza’s people, and operational capacity. The cessation of funding, especially from the largest contributor, the United States, could significantly impact the agency’s work across sectors like education, health, relief, social services, infrastructure, and financial assistance.
Established in 1949, UNRWA’s primary objective is to provide essential services to Palestinian refugees, with its operations spanning various vital areas. The agency has faced challenges, including the loss of workers in Israeli attacks. Despite Israel’s stance that UNRWA’s work in Gaza will cease after the war, concerns about the humanitarian and human rights consequences persist.
