Rahul Gandhi got his official residence in 2004 after being elected to the Lok Sabha from Wayanad. In July 2020, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi had to vacate her official bungalow in Delhi’s Lodhi Estate. The house was evacuated after security was cut.

The decision to disqualify Rahul Gandhi was made quickly, and it is believed that subsequent proceedings will also proceed swiftly. The Surat court sentenced Rahul on Thursday morning, and on Friday afternoon, he was disqualified from being a member of the Lok Sabha. The Speaker stopped the proceedings of the House while there was a demand to allow Rahul to speak on the Adani issue. After two hours, the Lok Sabha Secretary General’s order came out disqualifying Rahul.

The speed of the moves against Rahul may also lead to the announcement of Wayanad by-elections.
